Alessio Lisci: 'We Are Going to Huesca Hoping We Can Advance to the Next Round'

The Rojillo boss addressed the media ahead of tomorrow's match against Huesca

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci previewed Wednesday’s Copa del Rey Round of 32 match against Huesca at El Alcoraz. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CET (6 p.m. GMT, 1 p.m. ET).

"We are going to Huesca hoping we can advance to the next round. We do not want to lose. Last year, Huesca lost to Betis, 1-0. The previous year, they lost to Rayo in extra time. Every Copa round is difficult, but we have a team capable of advancing, even if it is not the top priority this week," Lisci said.

Lisci explained why the Copa del Rey match is not the team’s top priority but emphasized that Osasuna is still aiming to advance.

"The Copa is not a bother. I would like for us to make a deep run, but sometimes it can be your priority if you have a cushion in the LaLiga standings, and other times it cannot. Facing a Segunda Division team on the road is always difficult, so you cannot prioritize it. The players who have not played many minutes are top-tier and must show it, as they have in the previous two rounds."

Lisci, 40, addressed the quick turnaround between Wednesday’s match and Saturday’s LaLiga game against Alavés, saying the Copa del Rey match is important, but Saturday’s league fixture is crucial.

"We have to focus on the Copa, but Alavés is crucial. As before, we will compete at our best. Saturday matters, so we have to remember that. There may be several lineup changes, but given our league position, the Copa cannot be the top priority. Every player must give their all. The starting 11 may not be the usual, but they can help us advance in the competition."

The Rome native praised Huesca head coach Bolo for his work with the team, highlighting the improved defense and three clean sheets in the last four matches.

"Huesca’s coach is very good. Since he arrived, they have been more organized, with three clean sheets. Bolo’s teams are tough to beat and hard to break down. On set pieces, Pulido is a threat. It will be a tough match."
